Astroturf Storms United States NFL
Wednesday 21st March 2007 at 2:48AM Posted by Adrian Thompson, Webmaster The United States NFL (National Football League) have now adopted Astroturf as their playing surface of choice. According to www.fieldturf.com over twenty major teams across the country now use the artificial grass in their stadiums and on the practise pitches. This endorsement by the American sports industry surely proves the significance of recent technological advances in synthetics. Astroturf is indeed fast becoming the fashionable accessory in the sporting world.
The United Kingdom has lately experienced a high demand for artificial lawns but the boom of popularity for Astroturf on the playing field is yet to be seen. Economists are renowned for stating that market trends in England and Europe mirror those of past years in America. Therefore, it should be nothing more than a matter of time before Wembley Stadium, Old Trafford, Anfield and the like are transformed into a synthetic wonderment. Astroturf is the buzzword and an improved performance across the board is the anticipated benefit. The English FA (Football Association) has already released extensive guidelines on the use and installation of artificial grass pitches. The most likely setback for widespread use is cost and a stadium installation of Astroturf usually costs over a quarter million pounds sterling. The theory is that as soon as one major premier league team adopts artificial turf, all the others will soon follow. Will real grass be a thing of the past? Let us know your thoughts on the synthetic revolution by emailing webmaster@asgoodasgrass.co.uk. Watch this space as we continue to report on the Astroturf story as it unfolds.
