 We Love Astroturf! Do You?

Everyone knows that we love Astroturf but let’s take a look at the company behind the name. Despite many people using it as a generic product name, Astroturf is actually a registered trademark. None of our customers have asked if "As Good As Grass" sell Astroturf but perhaps some of you may think it! The answer is simply no. The "As Good As Grass" company sells artificial grass and synthetic grass surfaces but we are not associated with the Astroturf brand.

Astro turf is not alone

Interestingly, statistics on Google show that many people searching for astro turf (two words) are looking to buy artificial grass but were not trying to locate the specific brand. This common misunderstanding is prevalent in several industries and is known as a genericised trademark. Other examples include Sellotape, Frisbee, Xerox, Hoover, Kleenex and now astro turf.

Is astro turf as good as grass?

Although this is a serious subject, we have to throw in some humour along the way or nobody would read the blog! So this is controversial as much as a garden blog can be…

Yes astro turf is as good as grass because modern synthetic technology now allows a very realistic reproduction. The days of bristly and ugly fibres are gone and hi-tech plastic polypropylene grass is the future. And no, Astroturf is not "As Good As Grass" because they are two completely different trademarks. Are you confused? We hope not because this is a sticky issue we want made very clear.
