Astro Turf Shock-Pads

shock padsShock-pads with astro turf are typically used in any child play area such as parks, schools, nurseries, kindergartens, playgrounds and beneath climbing frames. Child friendly astro turf technology is also proving to be increasingly popular in residential gardens for safety conscious parents. The installation area can be any size as the padding is simply applied beneath the artificial grass. Astro turf shock-pads range in price from eleven pounds sterling to thirty pounds, depending on the quality.

The soft, cushioned layer can be applied to any solid base underneath the artificial grass without the need for infill. The way in which this works is through impact absorption due to air pockets built into the shock-pad. The depth of the shock-pad is directly proportional to the safe falling distance onto the astro turf surface. An eighteen-millimetre layer will allow a fall height of approximately one metre and the maximum seventy-millimetre depth permits a safe three-metre fall onto the astro turf.

The installation process for these child friendly play areas is very similar to that for normal artificial grass. Any astro turf product can be used in conjunction with the padding. As fore mentioned however, the characteristics of each available artificial grass should be considered before purchase to ensure the best solution. If performing your own astro turf installation, you should first ask for professional advice.
